A shocking case of domestic violence emerged from Bakani town in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, where a 23-year-old woman bit off a portion of her husband’s tongue during a heated argument. The accused, identified as Ravina Sain, later attempted to harm herself, but her family intervened before she could cause serious injury.
According to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Brijraj Singh, the incident took place on Thursday night, when Ravina and her husband, Kanhayalal Sain (25), got into an argument. The couple, married for one-and-a-half years, was known to have frequent fights. During the altercation, Ravina allegedly bit off a part of Kanhayalal’s tongue, leaving him grievously injured.
Kanhayalal was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where doctors advised shifting him to Jhalawar Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Medical experts have informed the family that the severed portion of his tongue could be stitched back, pending further evaluation. His condition is currently stable, but he remains under observation.
Following the incident, Ravina locked herself inside a room and attempted to slit her wrist with a sickle. However, her family members managed to coax her out of it before she could inflict serious harm. The police were informed, and an investigation was launched into the matter.
Based on a complaint filed by Kanhayalal’s brother, a case has been registered against Ravina Sain under sections 115(2) and 118(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing hurt and grievous injuries. The police are yet to record the victim’s statement, as he is still receiving medical treatment.
Authorities are continuing their probe into the circumstances leading up to the incident. Meanwhile, the case has raised concerns about domestic violence dynamics, with police also looking into the history of the couple’s conflicts.
